The Taos VA Clinic

Knowing the importance of connecting with a primary care physician in terms of your mental health care as well as your physical health, if you are not already established in the VA health care system, your first step is to go into the Taos VA Clinic. They are located at 1353 Paseo del Pueblo, next to the Sonic Drive-in. Their hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. You can call them to ask general questions (575-751-0328). However, if you are not yet established, you need to go into the clinic with your DD-214 or other proof of military service.

Being a clinic, they don’t offer the same range of medical services available at the VA hospital in Albuquerque, but the clinic’s Primary Care Physician can submit a consult/referral through the Community Care Network to connect you with a medical specialist in Taos, Espanola. or Santa Fe.

Accessing the Department of Veterans Affairs’ “MyHealtheVet”.

For veterans having access to the Internet, the MyHealtheVet web page on the VA.gov website  provides veterans and family members access to the following services and resources:

  • Refill your VA prescriptions and manage your medications
  • Schedule and manage some VA health appointments
  • Use secure messages to communicate privately with your VA health care team
  • Review, download, and print your medical records, including lab and test results
  • Order some medical supplies
  • Veterans can also:
  • File for VA travel pay reimbursement and
  • Update your personal, financial, or insurance information after you’re enrolled in VA health care

Accessing Local Urgent Care And Hospital Emergency Services

Recently the VA’s healthcare billing contractor, TriWest, has partnered with the Taos Urgent Care Clinic and Holy Cross Hospital. When you go to the clinic or hospital’s emergency room, show them your VA Health ID card and they will (should) subsequently bill the VA through TriWest. However to be sure this happens, we suggest that you call 844-724-7842 within 72 hours of your visit and tell them that you were at the clinic or hospital,
