who we are

The authority of State Approving Agencies was established by an act of Congress in 1947 to help ensure veterans and elegible dependents may use the GI Bill educational entitlement for approved educational and/or training programs.

The New Mexico State Approving Agency (NMDVS SAA) is a bureau within the New Mexico department of Veterans’ Services working to ensure that every veteran, reservist, National Guard member, and family member eligible for the GI Bill has opportunities to pursue their educational or vocational goals to their full potential. The NDVS SAA will work to protect the eligible perosn’s opportunity to a quality education and/or training program.

Making approval deteminations of programs at existing and new educational institutions ad training establishments

Conducting risk-based surveys of educational institutions; report, take appropriate action

Providing technical assistance to schoool-certifying officials

Meeting cooperative agreement requirements
